Mike Lai - President

Since establishing APX, Mr. Mike Lai led the team behind five franchised hotel developments between 2005-2009, earning him the prestigious Intercontinental Hotel Group Canadian "Developer of the Year" award in 2008. In 2014, the team opened The Hampton Inn by Hilton Lloydminster and the Hampton Square Lloydminster commercial retail development.

Mr. Lai’s meticulous attention to detail, strategic planning and strong relationship building principles are evident in his calculated approach to land acquisition, development, construction and business operations. Under Mr.Lai’s leadership, the team at APX have maintained top market share, high brand performance and superior guest service in all of the communities we operate in.

Robin Cumine, CHA, CHGM - Vice President of Operations

Robin is an achievement-focused executive with an extraordinary track record of business development and operational successes. He possesses relevant expertise as a leading-edge revenue and profit solutions provider preceded by an extremely effective tenure within the Canadian hotel franchise industry. Robin applies his unique combination of operational, sales, management, financial analysis and superior team-building skills with strategic planning acumen to deliver superior results. 

His extensive knowledge of accommodation and resort industry protocols at national and regional levels is well-sought after and he maintains leadership roles in many of Alberta’s most iconic and foundational tourism businesses and associations. Robin is a proud recipient of the the Alto Ambassador Award 2017, Skål International Edmonton Tourism Award as well as the prestigious designations of Certified Hotel General Manager and Certified Hospitality Administrator.

Patty Guo - Vice President of Finance

Patty is an analytical, cost focused expert with over 15 years of financial experience in the hospitality industry. She oversees all of APX’s financial operations and is involved in planning and budgeting for future success as well as designing and implementing accounting procedures. As an executive leader with high integrity, Patty also ensures compliance with local and national reporting regulations.

With a strong background in both hotel and property management, Patty has prepared and participated in mergers and acquisition negotiations as well as assessments of business value and growth prospects.

Monica Batt, CPHR – Director of Human Resources

Monica is a proud, born and raised Edmontonian who enjoys addressing the issues raised by the intersection of business and humanity. Upon graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with an Honours Diploma in Accounting Monica realized that numbers only tell part of a company’s story. Her desire to handle multi-faceted organizational matters led Monica to obtain a bachelor’s degree with distinction in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations which was followed by a Chartered Professional in Human Resources Management designation. Prior to her education and professional development, Monica worked in management for 7 years and was able to maintain full-time leadership roles during her studies as well. 

Through her experience and education Monica brings a balanced perspective to the function of human resources. In her professional practice, Monica aligns, designs and implements the human resources strategy to assist in the achievement of APX’s vision. 

Doug Wetenkamp MCSE, PMC - Director of Information Technology

An IT Network and Project Manager with over 15 years of expertise in the Network infrastructure and Project Management field supporting large scale projects for national hotel groups. Successfully delivered small- to large-scale, mission-critical projects while staying on time and under budget throughout Canada. Highly analytical with the ability to problem solve complex business and technical problems with expert knowledge in many operating systems and network architectures. Team-based management style and excellent interpersonal-communication skills.

Lindsey Kirkconnell - Regional Director of Sales

Lindsey is an innovative Sales Strategist who has over 15 years of experience in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Having achieved an IHG Director of Sales Certification, Lindsey additionally possesses substantial expertise in Hilton, Marriott and Wyndham branded hotel operations and sales development. An active member of the Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels (EDMH) Marketing Committee, Lindsey uses her influencing skills to guide the marketing strategy of the West Edmonton Hotel cluster. Lindsey has represented the EDMH and the City of Edmonton as a certified industry professional  at numerous travel and tourism associated events across Canada and the United States of America.

Analyzing specific market data and customer needs allows Lindsey and her team to develop targeted sales strategies and deliver market leading financial results. Utilizing her strong relationship building skills; Lindsey is responsible for directing the  growth of the revenue and business streams for the APX Hotels portfolio.
